Antonio Banderas Is Secretly Keeping The Sweetest Birthday Wish From His Daughter
Antonio Banderas turned 66 under the Marbella sky on August 9, 2026, at the XVII annual Starlite Occident Gala, the charity event he has co-organized in his hometown region of Andalusia for years, and at midnight Plácido Domingo took the microphone and led the entire room in singing happy birthday to the man beside him. The crowd was already on its feet. It was, by most accounts, one of the night's most talked-about moments. Earlier in the evening, Banderas had donated the shirt he was wearing, hand-painted by him, for the charity auction. He has been doing things like that for a long time. When reporters asked him how he felt about 66, he said he carries it well, that he feels good, and that the mathematics are the mathematics. He added that he only asks for one thing. Health, basically, and that if he has health, everything else will follow. His daughter Stella del Carmen, his child with Melanie Griffith, married her childhood sweetheart Alex Gruszynski in October 2025. Asked whether he hopes they will have children, Banderas did not hesitate: yes, he sees himself wanting that. The thing is, he said, he does not tell his daughter. He does not want to influence the decisions she makes. He has never done it and he never will. He said it with the absolute certainty of a man who has thought this through, not as a sacrifice but as a principle: her choices belong to her, not to him, and he will not blur that line no matter how much he would like to be a grandfather. He did say out loud what kind of grandfather he thinks he would be. A wonderful one, he said. He thinks about it, and it amazes him. It's like a trick of time.
