Kylie Jenner Is Playing A Murder Victim In Her First Ever Acting Role

Kylie Jenner, 29, is set to star in and executive produce Bachelorette Weekend, a thriller drama series nearing a straight-to-series order at Hulu, marking her first major scripted acting role. The series follows a bachelorette weekend that turns deadly when the bride, played by Jenner, is found murdered in a pool, with her closest friends becoming the primary suspects. Her character serves as what the production is describing as the North Star of the series, with each episode piecing together the events leading up to her death from the perspectives of the people who were there. The project began when the spec script, based on an unpublished book by author Flora Collins and adapted by writer Lauren Oliver, was sent to Kim Kardashian through her first-look deal with 20th Television. Kardashian read it, immediately felt it was the perfect starring vehicle for her sister, and passed it along. Both came on board quickly. Kardashian is executive producing alongside Jenner, Oliver, and Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment, and the project was then pitched to Hulu, where it is now finalizing its order. Jenner had made her film acting debut earlier this year in Charli XCX's satirical mockumentary The Moment, playing a fictionalized version of herself. Bachelorette Weekend marks the first time she will play a character entirely unlike herself, and it is by any measure a significant jump from a cameo to a lead role in a murder mystery thriller.
Jenner told Vanity Fair earlier this year that she had received several scripts and had not yet found one that felt right, adding with characteristic confidence that she expected to be the lead of an action movie before long. Bachelorette Weekend is not an action movie, but a role as the murdered bride at the center of a mystery series built around reconstructing the last hours of her character's life is about as dramatic an entry point as any first major acting role could offer. Her partner Timothée Chalamet, an Oscar-nominated actor who has navigated franchise films, period dramas, and everything in between, is at home and presumably available for questions. Production details and a premiere date have not yet been announced, and further casting beyond Jenner has not been confirmed. The Kardashian-Jenner family has been expanding steadily into scripted entertainment on Hulu alongside their long-running reality series The Kardashians, which is entering its eighth season. Kim Kardashian's scripted legal drama All's Fair, in which she plays a high-powered divorce attorney, is heading into its second season. Jenner is now joining the scripted side of the operation, specifically as a corpse around which an entire mystery will be constructed. She is the North Star of the series. She is also, from the first episode, dead. This is an interesting place to start an acting career, and it has everyone's attention.
