Two People Assembled A Mr. Potato Head In 8.37 Seconds And Set A Guinness World Record.

Lim Kai Yi and Tey E Fund, both from Malaysia, assembled a complete Mr. Potato Head in 8.37 seconds in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, breaking the Guinness World Record for fastest time to assemble Mr. Potato Head as a team of two. The record was certified in August 2026. Lim is 22 years old, works as a professional cubing coach, speaks six languages fluently, can understand ten, and has held this specific record three times before, each time with a different partner. He first picked up a Mr. Potato Head in 2022 and has been improving the record ever since. His description of why the challenge keeps drawing him back is precise: it combines an iconic classic toy from decades ago with top-notch hand speed and speed-solving skills, and the balance between speed and precision is what makes him want to repeatedly break it and take the result to new heights. The nine-step division of labor the pair uses is meticulously choreographed: person one adds the eyes, person two adds the nose and moustache, person one attaches the mouth, person two attaches the shoes, person one adds the hat, person two the left arm, person one the right arm, and person two both ears in the final two steps. Before each attempt, regardless of which partner he is working with, Lim spends around 10 to 15 minutes in synchronized practice.
The Mr. Potato Head record is only one item on a growing list. Lim's current Guinness titles also include fastest time to sort 30 colored soft toys at 18.86 seconds, fastest time to arrange movie titles into alphabetical order at 43.45 seconds, fastest time to arrange a deck of playing cards at 31.74 seconds, fastest time to set up and topple five erasers at 2.40 seconds, and fastest time to build a 15-cup pyramid at 2.40 seconds. He says he has been working on breaking several additional records related to speed-solving puzzles in recent months, and he is already projecting where the Mr. Potato Head record can go next. He believes a six-second assembly is possible under the right circumstances and is planning a seven-second attempt as his next target. He also enjoys that each attempt brings a new partner, because cooperating with someone different each time adds to the dexterity and adaptability required to keep breaking it. Mr. Potato Head, the iconic toy that first appeared in American living rooms in 1952, has been charming generations for over 70 years. It has never been assembled as quickly as it was in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, on this particular afternoon.
