A Texas Church Set 5 Guinness World Records With 10,000 Drones In One Week

At a venue called The Field on Masters Road in Manvel, Texas, drone show company Aerial Illuminations and drone manufacturer UVify spent nine days running nightly shows culminating in a five-record Easter celebration in late March that stunned audiences with nearly 10,000 drones performing synchronized formations in the Texas night sky. The partnership came together with a specific context: the shows were timed to run after evening church programming at the site concluded each night, with the drones depicting scenes tied to the lessons being taught inside, bringing the messages of the services into the sky as visual spectacle visible to hundreds of onlookers. By the end of the run between March 27 and April 1, the shows had certified five Guinness World Records: largest flying LED screen formed by drones with 9,969 aircraft, largest aerial logo formed by drones with 9,985, largest drone QR code formation with 9,370, largest aerial word formed by drones with 9,975 spelling out JESUS, and most multirotors launched in a week with 66,123, a total more than three times the previous record of 21,000 set in Riyadh in 2023. The formations across the shows included recreations of Gustav Klimt's The Kiss and Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night, functional QR codes that audience members could scan from the ground, and the logos of both companies.
Managing a coordinated fleet of nearly 10,000 drones simultaneously requires a level of operational complexity that most people watching from the ground do not fully appreciate. The crew on site numbered 100 people, and the drones and field equipment represented approximately $25 million worth of hardware. Aerial Illuminations contributed a significant share of the drones directly and sourced the remainder from across the country through their manufacturer to reach the numbers needed for the record attempts. Guinness World Records adjudicator Andy Glass, who was present for the final Easter performance, said managing nearly 10,000 drones across multiple formations in one show is not trivial, and that the team executed really well, noting that the jump across all record categories was significant given how recently some of the previous marks had been set. He added that this was his first time seeing a drone show up close and that it was genuinely mesmerizing. After the records were confirmed, the pastors gave a closing speech inside and encouraged everyone attending to come back the following year and push the numbers even further. That invitation, it would seem, is already on the table.
