Whoopi Goldberg Reveals What She Earns A Year On The View

Whoopi Goldberg has been co-hosting and moderating The View since 2007, making her one of the two longest-serving hosts in the show's history alongside Joy Behar, and she has never been particularly cagey about the financial logic behind her commitment. During a recent appearance on Keke Palmer's Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast, Palmer asked Goldberg directly what she loves most about The View. Goldberg answered immediately: the check. I love the check. When Palmer said she could only imagine the size of that paycheck, Goldberg pushed back. No, she said, you can't. Trust me. You can't. You would be shocked. As soon as they showed you that check, you'd be like, what the. Palmer called the situation incredible. Goldberg added: it is what it is. Journalist Yashar Ali subsequently reported, citing three people familiar with her contract, that Goldberg earns approximately $6 million per year from The View, making her the highest-paid host on the panel even after a reported pay cut ahead of Season 29.
Goldberg has been this candid about it before, and the honesty is its own kind of refreshing. She told The New York Times that The View is simply a job for her, adding that in a way she is playing a role, and she has said publicly that the public gets her even when they don't like her. She is a member of the EGOT club, meaning she holds an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony, the only one of the four daytime hosts to have done that. She won her Oscar for Ghost in 1991, her Grammy for a comedy album in 1985, her Tony as a producer for Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2002, and her Daytime Emmy as a talk show host in 2009. She has also been one of the more outspoken and entertaining voices in American television for four decades. The paycheck, she would probably say, is beside the point of most of that. But she also said, on Keke Palmer's podcast, that it is good to have a job. It's good to have a job. And she appeared to mean both things simultaneously, which feels exactly right for someone who has been doing this since before most of her current co-hosts were born.
