A Mexican City Just Made Nearly 15,000 Pounds Of Guacamole Then Fed It To Everyone

Tancítaro Mexico Avocado Festival largest guacamole world record 14992 pounds

The self-proclaimed Avocado Capital of the World just proved it deserves the title. On April 10, during its 13th annual Avocado Festival the city of Tancítaro in Michoacán, Mexico, set a new Guinness World Records title for the largest serving of guacamole ever made. More than 800 volunteers worked for two and a half hours straight, mixing avocados with locally sourced tomato, onion, lime, and cilantro in a container roughly the size of a jacuzzi to produce a jaw-dropping 14,992.53 lbs of fresh guacamole. That is heavier than a full-grown elephant, and roughly 4,000 lbs more than the previous record held by a neighboring city in the same Michoacán region. The crowd erupted when Guinness World Records adjudicator Susana Reyes made the official announcement. "This record proudly showcases Mexican cultural identity to the world," Reyes said. "I have no doubt it will leave many wishing they could taste a guacamole like this!"

Tancítaro is no ordinary city, it is the largest producer of avocados in Mexico, which is itself the world's largest avocado exporter, meaning the volunteers mixing that record-breaking batch were essentially the most qualified people on Earth to do it. The Feria del Aguacate is held every year to promote regional tourism and celebrate the agricultural richness of Michoacán, drawing thousands of visitors for tastings, exhibitions, and cultural events. And when the weighing was done and the record was certified? Every last pound of guacamole was distributed to everyone gathered at the festival. Nearly 15,000 pounds of freshly made guacamole, gone in a day. Someone just needs to show up next year with the world's largest tortilla chip.
