A Pittsburgh PE Teacher Did 1,826 Push-Ups In One Hour And Beat The World Record By Over 250

Laura Hunt push-up record

Laura A. Hunt is an athletic coordinator and physical education teacher at the Falk School at the University of Pittsburgh, and in November 2025 she lay down on a purple yoga mat in a Pennsylvania gym and spent 60 consecutive minutes doing push-ups. When the hour was over her count stood at 1,826, beating the previous Guinness World Record for most push-ups in one hour by a woman, held by DonnaJean Wilde of Canada at 1,575 since 2024, by 251 repetitions. The certification was published in August 2026. With over 25 years of experience in physical education and personal training, Hunt understood exactly what the attempt would require, and she prepared accordingly, averaging 5,500 push-ups per week in training. She built strength with push-ups on a balance board, worked her core on an exercise ball, and documented every stage of the journey on social media. She said she always been a goal-driven person who thrives on challenges, and described the record as a statement of perseverance, discipline, and belief in what is possible.

On the day of the attempt, Hunt brought out an independent witness, a fitness specialist, two timekeepers, and a group of supporters including her friends who had given themselves the name the Push Up Pirates. She began confidently, pumping out sets of 15 from the moment the timer started, with her palms flat and her sneakers square on the floor behind her. When she needed rest she dropped to her knees for a few seconds, then got back up and kept going. She surpassed the existing record on her 105th set, and rather than easing off she increased her set size, pushing harder as she closed in on her final number. When she finished, her loved ones burst confetti over her head and she could not stop smiling. She said she wanted to prove to her children, her students, and anyone watching that hard things are worth doing, and that we can all be bigger than ordinary. She has been a physical education teacher for more than a quarter century. The students in her gym now have a world record holder for a teacher.
