88 Year Old Takes First Flight Ever Piloted By Her Grandson

An 88 year old Wisconsin grandmother got to cross off a major bucket list item when she took her very first flight on a plane piloted by her grandson creating a memory that both will hold onto forever. Frances Dahlke from Wisconsin had reached many milestones in her life but there was one she had yet to check off taking her first flight and her only condition was clear that her grandson Alex Shupe had to be the pilot. She told family that she would fly when Alex gets his pilot’s license and after years of training he was finally able to make her dream come true using his employee flight benefits as an American Airlines pilot to put her on the standby list for a flight from La Crosse Regional Airport to Chicago. The family planned for everything down to the smallest detail with relatives telling Frances to take Dramamine before the flight something she had never taken in her life adding to the list of first time experiences.

After going through security all that was left was to embrace the next hour and a half with loved ones as she flew first class making her feel like a spoiled celebrity. She marveled at the sensation of flight and watching the clouds outside describing the experience as very very nice while her grandson called it a career highlight to finally be able to fly his family with his 88 year old grandma experiencing his piloting. Shupe’s parents and brother were also on the flight getting to see him in action as a pilot and watch him work in the cockpit for the first time. Shupe shared photos on Instagram expressing how meaningful it was calling it a truly memorable experience that proved it is never too late to try something new when you have loved ones to share it with.
