California Restaurant Robot Goes Rogue and the Internet Is Obsessed

A restaurant robot in Cupertino, California recently had the kind of night that has left customers, staff, and the entire internet completely and thoroughly entertained in the very best possible way. The humanoid robot, brought in by the popular hot pot chain Haidilao to perform lively dance routines for guests during dinner service, got a little too close to a table during one of its performances and began sending plates, chopsticks, and assorted dishware flying in every direction across the restaurant. At least three employees rushed in to try to restrain the enthusiastically flailing robot, with one staff member appearing to frantically scroll through a phone app in search of a way to bring the spirited performance to a close. Making the whole scene even more delightful was the bib the robot happened to be wearing at that very moment, which read simply, cheerfully, and with tremendous confidence: I'm Good.
The restaurant confirmed the incident in a statement but was quick to clarify that the robot was not malfunctioning or out of control, explaining that a guest had asked the robot to come closer to their table, which placed it outside its typical operating space and affected its movement mid-dance. The robot appears to be an AgiBot X2, a sophisticated humanoid machine that had been showcased at a major international technology conference just months before its memorable Cupertino debut. Video of the encounter spread across social media almost instantly and delighted viewers around the world who greatly appreciated the robot's absolute and unwavering commitment to its performance. Haidilao is well known for its playful and inventive dining atmosphere, and this particular evening in Cupertino may have just become the most talked about dinner show in all of Silicon Valley history.
