Disneyland Has Big News This Summer And One Change Is 70 Years In The Making!

Disneyland is having quite a summer, and two pieces of news from the Anaheim theme park have fans buzzing this week about what is back and what exciting changes are on the horizon. The beloved Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind ride at Disney California Adventure has officially reopened at Pixar Pier after being closed for a months-long refurbishment, welcoming families back into colorful Memory Mover vehicles themed to the emotions from the hit Pixar film and sending guests swirling through cheerful scenes from the movie in hot air balloon-shaped ride vehicles. The reopening has been one of the most joyful moments at the park this summer for families with young children, especially those visiting during the busy summer travel season now in full swing across Southern California. Over in Tomorrowland, meanwhile, Disneyland is preparing for the biggest transformation to one of its oldest and most iconic attractions in the park's entire seven-decade history.
Autopia, the miniature driving attraction that opened on Disneyland's very first day in 1955 and has chugged along on gas-powered engines ever since, is going fully electric. Under a settlement agreement with the California Air Resources Board reached in 2024, Disneyland has a firm deadline of February 2027 to retire the ride's current gas-powered engines, and park officials have confirmed they are actively designing, engineering, and testing a fully electric Autopia prototype vehicle to meet that requirement. The park originally aimed to complete the transition by fall 2026, and while the timeline may shift slightly into early 2027, the destination is certain: a cleaner, quieter, and thoroughly modernized Autopia is on its way. For the millions of children who will one day climb into an Autopia car for the very first time, that first drive around Tomorrowland is about to become an electric one.
