Hollywood Legends Debate How To Pronounce Los Angeles.

Los Angeles has a new debate on its hands, and it started in the most delightful place imaginable: right in the middle of a conversation between two of Hollywood's most beloved actresses. Jamie Lee Curtis and Mariska Hargitay sat down together for Variety and CNN's Actors on Actors interview series, a warm and candid conversation between two women who grew up in Hollywood dynasties and only recently discovered just how deeply their family histories are intertwined with one another. Curtis is the daughter of acting legends Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, while Hargitay is the daughter of golden-era screen icon Jayne Mansfield, and the two have grown so close that Hargitay has lovingly described them as sisters from another mother or father. Everything was going beautifully until Curtis casually referred to their hometown as Los Angeles, pronouncing the first word with a long O sound like the word ghost, and Hargitay could barely contain herself.
Hargitay immediately stopped the conversation, told Curtis she was trying not to laugh, and declared firmly that nobody in the city says it that way before turning to the nearby film crew to settle the matter once and for all. Curtis held her ground with considerable confidence, pointing to the neighborhood of Los Feliz as evidence that her pronunciation had some logical merit, while Hargitay insisted that any jury in the world would rule unanimously in her favor. The two appealed to the crew around them for a verdict and then, with the great question of Los Angeles left gloriously unanswered, Hargitay threw up her hands and the interview moved on. The clip has since taken over the internet and reignited a debate that Angelenos everywhere are now weighing in on with tremendous enthusiasm and absolutely no signs of resolution anytime soon.
