Did You Know Jackie Chan Holds Two Guinness World Records, And One Is Completely Unexpected

Jackie Chan receiving his two Guinness World Records certificates for most stunts by a living actor and most credits in one movie at the Chinese Zodiac premiere in Shanghai

Most people who know Jackie Chan know that he does all his own stunts, has broken his nose three times, fractured both cheekbones, cracked his skull, and broken most of his fingers at various points across a career spanning more than 100 films. What far fewer people know is that he holds not one but two official Guinness World Records, and while the first one for most stunts performed by a living actor is the record you would expect, the second one is genuinely surprising. During the 2012 premiere of his film Chinese Zodiac in Shanghai, Guinness World Records presented Chan with certificates for both titles, and the second one was most credits in one movie for a single person. On that film alone, Chan took on 15 separate roles in the production, including writer, director, lead actor, producer, executive producer, cinematographer, art director, unit production manager, catering coordinator, stunt coordinator, gaffer, composer, props coordinator, theme song vocalist, and stuntman, breaking the previous record of 11 held by filmmaker Robert Rodriguez.

No insurance company in the world will underwrite Jackie Chan's productions because he performs all of his own stunts, a fact that has been true throughout his entire career, and after a number of stuntmen were injured during the making of Police Story, he founded the Jackie Chan Stuntmen Association, personally trained the stunt team, and paid for their medical bills out of his own pocket. His stunt work has taken him off buildings, out of helicopters, through glass, down poles, and across rooftops in some of cinema's most memorable practical action sequences, all without a double and all captured on film by real cameras at real speed. When he was presented with the certificates in Shanghai, Chan said that achieving the records was the recognition of all his life's work, and posted on social media that he could now tell audiences and future generations with pride: this is Jackie Chan, and this is forever. He turned 70 in 2024 and, in a photo that went viral, looked so unchanged from his action hero days that fans could only respond with stunned disbelief.
