Snoop Dogg Is Secretly A Certified Youth Football Coach And His Players Made It To The NFL

Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. (Snoop Dogg) has sold over 35 million albums worldwide. He performed at the Super Bowl. He carried the Olympic torch in Paris. He is one of the most recognizable human beings on the planet. He is also, quietly, a certified youth football coach who has spent the last two decades building one of the most impactful football programs in the country, and his players have made it to the NFL. In 2005, when his son Corde started playing Pop Warner football in the Los Angeles area, Snoop Dogg did what any football-obsessed dad might do: he volunteered on the sidelines. Then he started coaching. Then he founded the Snoop Youth Football League, an afterschool nonprofit that started with 1,300 children in the Los Angeles area and has since expanded to teams across multiple states. "When you're dealing with them kids, it's a different kind of love," he told ESPN. "It's a love that lets you go back to being a kid again." His rules on the field are strict. If a player calls him "Snoop Dogg" instead of "Coach," they owe the team 20 push-ups. In 13 years of coaching, he says he has never performed a single rap for his players. They are there to play football, and so is he.
The results speak for themselves. Players who came through the Snoop Youth Football League include Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Daiyan Henley of the Los Angeles Chargers, among others. He coached his own sons Corde and Cordell, the latter going on to play wide receiver at UCLA. The whole story inspired his 2024 Amazon Prime film The Underdoggs, which he produced and starred in as a fictionalized version of himself. "It's so close to the kids that I coached in real life," he said of the film. Snoop Dogg has been one of the most famous people in America for thirty years. Most of that time, he has also been quietly building the next generation of football players in the inner city, one practice at a time, asking for nothing in return except that his players call him Coach.
