The World's Oldest Cat Is 31. She Only Drinks Spring Water.

Leslie Greenhough, a 71-year-old purchasing manager from Stockport, England, believes he lives with the oldest cat in the world: a tortoiseshell named Millie, born in 1995 and now 31 years old, equivalent by common feline age calculations to approximately 146 human years. Millie was first taken in as a three-month-old kitten by Leslie's late wife Paula, who got her in 1995 and cared for her until her own death in 2020 at the age of 55. Leslie has cared for Millie since. His theory about why she has lived so long centers on something that began a decade ago, when work on nearby water pipes led to Buxton natural mineral water being delivered to his home. He started giving it to both himself and Millie and kept the arrangement going after the tap water returned because it came back looking dirty. He has given her only Buxton spring water to drink every day for ten years. Her diet alongside that is rich: salmon, prawns, chicken, and tuna are among her regular foods, supplemented by treats. On her most recent birthday in March, she received a celebratory bowl of chicken.

Leslie also keeps two fans running near Millie at all times during warm weather to make sure she stays comfortable. She has not been officially certified by Guinness World Records, partly because fully documenting a cat's age from 1995 is difficult, but Leslie says he is hoping that can be pursued. The current Guinness record for oldest living cat is held by a succession of cats at various points, with the all-time record belonging to a cat named Creme Puff of Austin, Texas, who lived 38 years and 3 days. Millie at 31 would comfortably place her among the oldest cats ever documented if the record can be confirmed. She was, in the simplest terms, a kitten his late wife chose in the same year that the internet became publicly accessible and Toy Story was released in cinemas, and she has outlasted everything around her with what appears to be no particular effort on her part beyond accepting the spring water and the fans and the salmon as her due. Leslie says she still has a good quality of life and remains comfortable. He says she is a remarkable cat, which seems accurate.
